Russell Conwell Newhouse
Russell Conwell Newhouse (1906–1998) made many contributions to the advancement of aviation in a distinguished career running from the late 1920s into the 1970s. He was the Director of the Radar Laboratory for the Bell Telephone Laboratories from 1958 to 1968.
Ernie Hudson
Ernest Lee "Ernie" Hudson (born December 17, 1945) is an American actor known for his roles as Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters film series, Sergeant Albrecht in The Crow, and Warden Leo Glynn on HBO's Oz. Recently, Hudson has had a small recurring role as Jay's friend Miles on the American comedy TV series Modern Family.

ReplyDeleteBorn in Clyde, Ohio, on December 17, 1906. At the age of ten, he moved with his parents to a farm in Delaware County near Ostrander where he completed his elementary and high school education.
He matriculated at Ohio State University from 1925 graduating in 1929 with a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering degree. In his senior year, his thesis, "An Electromagnetic Altimeter" was on the subject of a frequency modulated radio altimeter for aircraft. He primarily worked under the direction of Professor W. L. Everitt. He was granted a Guggenheim Fellowship to permit graduate work on this subject, and received an Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering degree in 1930.
While at Ohio State, he joined the Alpha Nu Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and is considered a notable Pi Kappa Phi.
1961, he was appointed by the FAA Administrator Najeeb Halaby to be a member of Project Beacon, a group which published the "Report of the Task Force on Air Traffic Control" in October 1961. This report made recommendations for the future of the Nation's air navigation and traffic control system.
He was a member of the Millburn Township N. J. School Board for many years and was president of the board for four of those years.
Mr. Newhouse and his wife Clara Lucille Newhouse have one son, Alan, who is a retired senior executive service civilian in the U.S. government whose career focused nuclear engineering within the Navy, Atomic Energy Commission, Department of Energy, and NASA.

ReplyDeleteOne of Hudson's early films was in Penitentiary II in 1982 starring Leon Isaac Kennedy. He landed various guest roles on TV shows such as The Dukes of Hazzard and The A-Team. He was on the TV series Fantasy Island in a first season episode as a voodoo man named Jamu. Hudson gained fame playing Winston Zeddemore, who enlists with the Ghostbusters in the 1984 feature film Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel. He auditioned to reprise the role for the animated series, The Real Ghostbusters, but he lost to Arsenio Hall). He had a major supporting role as the mentally challenged Solomon in The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.
Hudson was cast as Warden Leo Glynn on HBO's series Oz. On Oz, his son Ernie Hudson Jr. co-starred with him as Muslim inmate Hamid Khan. Hudson also appears as the character Munro in Congo and in the 1994 film The Crow as Police Sergeant Albrecht. He switched gears when he played a preacher opening the eyes of a small town prejudice in the 1950s in Stranger in the Kingdom. He is also known for his role as Harry McDonald, the FBI superior of Sandra Bullock's character in the feature film Miss Congeniality. He appears in the Stargate SG-1 TV episode "Ethon" as Pernaux. Hudson also appeared as Reggie in the film The Basketball Diaries. In 2008, he began a recurring role as Dr. Fields in The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Hudson also had a recurring role on the final season of Law & Order as Lt. Anita Van Buren's boyfriend and then fiancé.
